New Hires

Calumet City Fire has been awarded 4 firefighters through a SAFER Grant. Dates of hire will follow.

The Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Grants (SAFER) was created to provide funding directly to fire departments to help them increase or maintain the number of trained, "front line" firefighters available in their communities.

Federal Grants

In addition to the SAFER Grant, Calumet City was awarded an AFG for upgraded station ventilation.

The purpose of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program is to strengthen the nation’s overall level of preparedness and ability to respond to fire and related hazards.

For his bravery, Lowery was one of eight firefighters to earn the State of Illinois Firefighting Medal of Valor in May. Matt Perez, state fire marshal, presented the award, a plaque and medal in a ceremony that also included a memorial to fallen firefighters.
